demonstrators taking to the streets of oakland. on this day of action, the focus was on showing solidarity with the people in gaza. it is our tax dollars at work that pay for the bombs to be sent over there, and we're here to say not in our names. if we're workers, we're on strike today. this is mayday. this is international workers day. we free palestine. another protest in solidarity with palestinians turning into a victory rally at the west oakland bart station, with organizers saying the port of oakland canceled all work for the day due to a planned protest on the site. that means no work has happened at the port of oakland today, in big businesses that are doing work at the port of oakland have lost, millions of dollars now in unworked cargo. so we consider this, now, uc berkeley spokesperson tells us tonight that they are not commenting on whether that discussion took place between encampment organizers and university leaders. so we'll have to wait and see how much longer this encampment remains on campus in berkeley. pete se

, pete, nbc bay area news. >>> a split second decision that may have saved a life in oakland. a security guard spotted a fire, stopped to help, and ended up pulling a burning man out of that building. it happened at 61st and martin luther king way at around 10:30 morning. a security guard saw the fire in an apartment building, decided to help. he found two men who had already escaped the flames trying to get back in to rescue another friend. the guard used a flashlight to direct the man to a window and then grabbed him. >> he was just screaming. he's like, i cannot see. i cannot -- i don't know where to go. i cannot see. so i can hear he was banging the wall. so my first instinct was to pull him out of the apartment. and when we pull him out of the apartment, he was still on flames, part of his body and his clothes. so i run to my car and get a fire extinguisher. >> all three men were taken to the hospital. two are still hospitalized tonight, one is in critical condition. the cause of that fire is still under investigation. >>> all right, we have a great update and a great reu

also now down to 59 over in oakland. winds still out of the west to 12 high earlier today in the mid 60s, 56 currently and back over to san francisco. kind of a cool afternoon high of only 64. and that winds still out of the west at about 21mph. so what we have to look forward to across the inland valleys, especially wednesday and thursday. highs in the mid 70s to low 80s. then get ready for some changes as we approach next weekend. cooler and breezy again. might see a chance of showers next saturday. we'll have a look at that coming up in just a moment. notice the wind speeds all the way into solano county. typically this will bring in some patchy low clouds as we head towards the morning hours, but notice the temperature and wind progression tomorrow. wind speeds picking back up again like clockwork mid afternoon into early evening. that will once again keep temperatures around san francisco and the coast on the chilly side for monday. so we wake up to temperatures mainly in the low 50s. by lunchtime. high temperatures

well, wildly popular oakland restaurant is finally back in business. it was forced to close after vandalism and a fire last year, so. so what you're looking at here is the line to get into horn barbecue. this was from earlier today opened in a new location on eighth street in downtown oakland. the original location on mandela parkway was gutted by fire last year. that fire happened shortly after the restaurant had celebrated its third anniversary. there was times where i didn't feel that we would reopen and, you know, emotionally it just felt exhausting. you know, just the thought of it having to go through it all again. but you know what? there's always light at the end of the tunnel. oakland fire department tells us the november fire remains under investigation. let's go ahead and turn now to our cynthia pimentel. cynthia, how's it feeling out there? is it still windy? the winds are starting to calm down, but we do have more of it in store throughout the weekend. not going to be as gusty as today, but it could ruin some weekend plans out there. so le

oakland and san francisco are hovering around 550. a push to build a brand new city in solano county has taken a big step forward. over 20,000 solano residents have signed the petition. this has been a highly controversial project. the ceo of california forever announced today that his company has secured more than enough signatures to qualify for the november ballot. the solano county registrar is now in the process of verifying all those signatures. california forever said it wants to build a green community in east solano county. the group claims it would include thousands of homes, walkable neighborhoods, shopping, dining and open space. but many local and national leaders don't like the plan. i think the reality is there's a there's a small but vocal group of opponents who really dislike the project. but the more people in the county learn about it, and the more they look at the facts, instead of all of this misinformation that's been put out there, the more people are beginning to say, why is anyone against this? they have said
