after the game against st mirren on saturday. jane dougall was at rugby park. the statium has cleared now, but celtic have left knowing that they have the league title. this has been a tough ground to come to — twice this season celtic have lost here against kilmarnock but on this occasion they needn't have worried, just afterfour minutes, the first goal went in. it was adam idah who scored for them and then just eight minutes later they got their second and then itjust became an onslaught. as the fifth goal went in, the fans celebrated knowing that the title was theirs — a third scottish premiership title in a row and the first for their returning manager, brendan rogers. this weekend on saturday, they will lift the trophy for the first time in front of their home fans at celtic park. the battle for europa league and europa conference league is going right to the wire. cheslesa boosted their hopes

of a top 6 finish with a 2—1 win at brighton in the premier league. mauricio pochetino*s side made it 4 straight wins in a game that saw cole palmer score his 22nd league goal of the season. cheslea climb to 6th in the table with bournemouth to play on the final day. the victory, i think — must be great for our players and, yes, i am so happy because the three point put us in a very good position on the table to attack, you know, in the last game against bournemouth and the possibility of being in europe. (tx sot) manchester united could miss out on europe completely despite beating newcastle 3—2 at old trafford. anything other than a win for erik ten hag's side would have condemned them to their lowest league finish in sa years. rasmus hojlund broke his 10—game scoring drought to score united's 3rd of the evening. they go to brighton for their final game of the season on sunday. as always nice to win any game. but, yeah, it's important
2:48 am
to win the last game in old trafford for the season and it's very important and i think the fans deserve this because they had so difficult times as we had, but they always stayed with us. we go to brighton and last game important for the ranking so we needed three points and that is the only way how — and we don't have in our hands, but we have to do ourjob to win the game there. frustrating for us, i think. you know, away from home this year, our record has not been good enough and a familiar scene for us really. i thought we conceeded some poor goals today, and ultimately i think that cost us the game. i thought it was a decent performance. i thought we looked a good team but let down by some of our defending really. wolves are calling on the premier league to scrap var next season. they've triggered a vote at the agm on the 6th ofjune by formally submitting a resolution to have it removed. wolves say that after five seasons "it's time for a constructive and critical debate on its future". in response, the premier league say they fully support its use and remain committed alongside the pgmol, to improving var for the

benefit of the game and fans. joe lynskey has more. this is a club whose manager has just received a one—match touchline ban for comments about a var decision. garry o'neil called the disallowed goal for his team against west ham last month, "one of the worst decision i've ever witnessed." really throughout this season he's not shied away from criticising onfield and the video officials, right from last august when wolves, you might remember, were denied a penalty in the last minute at old trafford. now, his club — the club itself — have even gone further. they have released a statement saying var is damaging the relationship between fans and football. they go into some detail in bullet point in some way saying it impacts goal celebrations and spontaneous passion. they say it creates frustration and hostility towards the premier league from the crowd, and the var overa nalyses subjective decisions. now, wolves concluded this statement which has triggered this vote by saying,
2:50 am
"the price we are paying for a small increase in accuracy is at odds with the spirit of our game and as a result, we should remove var from next season onwards." there promises to be a thrilling end to the women's super league season after chelsea won 1—0 at tottenham. maika hamano scored to send chelsea top of the table — but they're only ahead of manchester city on goal difference, withjust two more. emma hayes*s side go to manchester united for their final game on saturday, with city at aston villa. at old trafford, you know, a fitting finale for me. my final game. as i said to the players, if someone gives you a second chance in life, make sure you don't need a third one. so we're in the position we want to be in and we'll give it everything on saturday no matter what. rory mcilroy says he's ready
2:51 am
to play as we approach the start of the second golf major of the year, the pga championship, which is back at valhalla in kentucky for the first time since 2014. mcilroy won it that year, but that was the last of his four major victories. can he end the 10 year drought? mcilroy*s the form player on tour, with titles over the past two weekends, incuding a brilliant final round on sunday to win the wells fargo championship at quail hollow. i feel good, obviously had a great day on sunday with, you know, at a golf course that i have grown to love over the years and had a lot of success at. coming to a venue where i have had some success at before as well. obviously get to go back to quail hollow every year. don't get to come back here too much. this is the first time today i was on the golf course since ten years ago so it was good to refamiliarise myself with the place. tennis: aryna sabalenka cruised

into the semi—finals of the italian open. she tookjust an hour and 13 minutes to see off jelena 0stapenko in straight sets. sabalenka will face danielle collins next. alex albon has signed a new contract with the williams formula one team till at least the end of 2026. the british—born thai driver has been with the oxfordshire based team since 2022. his current contract was due to expire at the end of next season. williams say it's a multi—year extension that takes albon into formula i's new regulation period, which starts in 2026. excitement is building in riyhad as we edge ever closer to that historic tyson fury vs oleksandr usyk fight. for the first time in 25 years one of them has the chance to become the first undisputed world heavyweight champion since lennox lewis in 1999. usyk is putting his three belts on the line in saudi arabia on saturday, with fury bringing his wbc title to the table with both hoping to etch their name into the history books.
2:53 am
ade adedoyin is there for us. well, one of the talking points in the lead—up to this fight is whether tyson fury will come in lighter than his previous bout. posted a lot of messages on social media to suggest he might. we got to see him up front at today's public workout. alongside me is the tokyo bronze medallist frazer clark, now professional who hopes to challenge for the world title one day. you watched him up close, what did you make of tyson fury? he looked light, but then again ijust think he's carrying it different. i don't think he's much more ligher, probably got a lot more muscle on. obviously had a better cut than last time, but he looked loose and that's something — if you're a trainer or you're in the team you like to see your fighter looking loose. he looked like he was enjoying it. at this stage of fight week you're doing a lot of stuff repetitive, speaking to a lot of media, everyone wants a piece of you. that was one of the rare tysons, he probably enjoyed himself, just him, the trainer and the boxing ring, that's like home for fighter in fight week. i think he looked good. what was interesting is i saw you talking to olexander usyk,
2:54 am
he was laughing and joking, seemed quite relaxed, but he stayed to watch tyson fury to go through his workout. did that surprise you? what would he take from that? i didn't think he would have took much from it. i don't think tyson, if he does see olexander*s workout, he wouldn't get much from that. there was a shift in focus, i can't lie. he was laughing and joking and then all of a sudden — boom, it was focused on tyson for a good five, six minutes, no blinking just looked at him. i even asked him — when does it become exciting this week? i know i have been there a lot of times. a lot of stress, a lot of commitments. when is it exciting? he said — it becomes exciting when it becomes real. that is from the second he gets in the ring, he said the blinkers come on, and just tyson fury and the referee. so from that moment there, it becomes exciting because he loves what he does. it is getting very real. frazer clarke there, bronze medallist from the tokyo games, now professional. the two men will come face—to—face at the final head—to—head press conference.
2:55 am
tyson fury is a master of the mind games. you wonder if he'll do anything to unsettle alexander usyk. i has been billed as the biggest bout in 25 years of boxing. a reminder of our top stories, celtic win their 12th scottish premiership title in 13 seasons after thrashing kilmarnock, they'll lift the trophy on saturday. and cheslea take a huge step towards european football after winning at brighton. manchester united could still finish outside the european places despite beating newcastle. you can get more on the bbc sport app, orfrom our website — but from me will perry and the rest of the team at the bbc sport centre, goodbye. hello there. looking at thursday's weather, we've got some, i think wet weather on the way to parts of england and wales with some thundery rain at times. on wednesday, here's
2:56 am
the day of sunny spells and passing showers. some of those showers, mind you, were very heavy, for example, here in hebden bridge. but looking at the satellite picture, you can see a stripe of cloud just here, that's a weather front that stretches all the way into europe. there's our fronts. but bumping into that front, we've got this trough here, this line of very intense showers. you might get the sense that these areas of rain are merging together. well, i think that's exactly what's going on. and they will tend to run towards england over the coming hours. so weather wise, over the next few hours, not so much of an issue. we'll have some low cloud effects, some of our north sea coast, a few mist and fog patches here and occasional spots of rain or drizzle. drier weather elsewhere with temperatures around ten or 11 degrees quite widely. the problems with the forecast come tomorrow. i think there is a risk of seeing more widespread rain initially across eastern areas of england through thursday morning before moving across the midlands and on it's parts of wales and the west country as we head into the afternoon. so the details are going to be quite difficult to come by but expect the chance

of seeing some heavy thundery rain at times across parts of england and wales. further northwards for northern ireland sunshine through the morning and a dry morning. the afternoon, yeah, you could see a storm or two breaking out. most of scotland, in contrast to all of that will be dry, although there will be some mist and low cloud across eastern areas and spots of drizzle through the morning, the afternoon, the best of the sunshine into the northwest and that's where we'll see temperatures at their highest, probably reaching around 23 degrees or so. heading into friday the weather pattern is still rather unsettled, but hopefully a bit more straightforward. it should be a day of sunshine and showers through the afternoon for england and wales. some of those turning heavy and thundery. the drier weather will be further north again for scotland and for northern ireland, where most places will keep spells of sunshine and temperatures well into the low 20s. that's going to feel pleasant with light winds for the weekend weather picture, we're still at low pressure close to the south of the uk, a ridge of high pressure trying to build in from the north—west. and so it's again scotland and northern ireland that will have the dry ice weather through the weekend.
2:58 am
england and wales, meanwhile, will have the chance of seeing a few more showers to come. bye for now.
